Biography

I obtained my undergraduate degree from the Australian National University, and subsequently went on to complete a PhD under the supervision of Peter Littlewood at the University of Cambridge. Prior to my taking up the EPSRC fellowship at Cambridge in 2009, I was a postdoctoral fellow in the Princeton Center for Theoretical Science at Princeton University. In 2011, I became a lecturer at the London Centre for Nanotechnology at UCL.

Research Interests

My research to date has focussed on two seemingly disparate areas of condensed matter physics: (1) quantum many-body phases such as superfluidity and superconductivity, and (2) the effective response of classical random media. This division in interests dates back to my PhD research, where I began by tackling the experimental puzzle of the anomalous magnetoresistance in the silver chalcogenides, and then later, I investigated the BCS-BEC crossover after it became apparent that this could finally be realized experimentally in ultracold atomic Fermi gases. More recently, I have been interested in general correlated phenomena in atomic gases, novel superconductors and electron-hole bilayers.

My ultimate aim is to conduct a programme of interdisciplinary theoretical research on strongly correlated phenomena that bridges the fields of atomic gases and electronic materials (such as unconventional superconductors), thus exploiting the complimentary aspects of each system.
